Boosting EdTech Content Creation with GenAI from Hours to Seconds

NewGlobe works with governments worldwide to improve the quality of basic education. They came together with Netguru to speed up the process of creating scripted teacher guides to support its expansion into new regions. Using GenAI, we accelerated the task from hours to less than a minute.

For NewGlobe, the true power of GenAI lies in combining the right tools with the right resources: an extensive library of exemplar guides and the expertise of instructional design directors.

Together, these two factors lead to GenAI’s full potential, transforming content creation into a streamlined, intelligent process without compromising on either quality, nor precision.

Client

NewGlobe works with visionary governments around the world to dramatically improve the quality of basic education.

Founded in 2007, the company partners with governments to provide integrated school management, teacher professional development, instructional design innovation, technological system support, child-centered classroom practice, and parent engagement – all grounded in learning science – to ensure each teacher is empowered to engage children in transformational learning.

Their data-driven approach has been validated by a Nobel-winning researcher and recognized by international leaders in education. Their vision is for a world where all children can access an education that unlocks their full potential.

Challenge

NewGlobe sought to streamline the creation of scripted teacher guides to support its expansion into new regions as well as its support for existing programmes.

However, it faced several challenges:

  • Manual creation of each teacher guide took around 4 hours and a given programme requires between 6,000 and 10,000 teacher guides in total. This time-intensive process delayed market entry for new programmes, and limited ongoing investments among NewGlobe’s existing programmes
  • The process of creating teacher guides requires the merging of teacher guide templates with specific content spreadsheets, which is highly labor-intensive
  • Expanding into new areas required producing vast amounts of content aligned with local curricula
  • The endeavor required a large team, diverting attention from higher-impact activities like course design and strategy

Project goals

NewGlobe came together with Netguru to:

  • Reduce the time to produce teacher guides
  • Streamline the creation process using GenAI, minimizing repetitive manual work while maintaining a high level of customization and capitalizing on NewGlobe’s existing corpus of content and domain-expertise
  • Match or exceed the quality of human-created guides
  • Attain high user satisfaction and ease of use

Project journey

The collaboration began with a two-day workshop to discover process background and vision, scope features, draw the user journey, understand risks, and align on technical requirements.

The development phase included:

  • Choosing an appropriate model for content generation
  • Creating initial version of the GenAI system
  • Developing a micro-application integrated into the client’s application portal
  • Testing and connecting the AI system to teacher guide templates and content spreadsheets
  • Creating an API for seamless integration
  • Improving UI, debugging, and ensuring compatibility with Microsoft Office and the software used to render generated content on end devices

The team also had to ensure that the GenAI produced reliable and high-quality structured content to limit hallucination, ensure the appropriate levels of lexile complexity, and design prompts to sustain repeatability and adherence to predefined guidelines.

The main challenges during the project development were limiting hallucinations and context drift, while maintaining the generated content's highly structured and easily parsable nature, without major performance drawbacks.

An additional challenge worth noting was the need to correctly develop an easy to create and use data structure to be used as input for different learning purposes.

Results

The project was completed within the allocated budget and a timeline of two months.

The GenAI system achieved significant milestones:

  • Reduced the creation time for teacher guides from 4 hours to 45 seconds
  • Enabled rapid expansion into new regions with customized instructional content
  • Received positive feedback from the client – NPS of 9 – and initiated funding for next steps

The project also improved operational efficiency by reducing reliance on junior staff, allowing for investment in subject-matter experts.

The other benefit was that the platform provided high scalability and language customization – it could generate guides in a multitude of different languages and be adjusted to other locations much faster.

It ensured a long-term impact with the timely delivery of high-quality content, ultimately benefiting both teachers and students. As a result, it established a strategic advantage by positioning NewGlobe as an innovative leader in education.

  • Netguru's solution dramatically transformed our content creation, reducing timelines from over 4 hours per guide to just 45 seconds while ensuring quality and consistency. Their knowledge and dedication, combined with the right data sets and domain experts, has made this GenAI tool invaluable for our team!
